Orange Cinnamon Rolls Recipe

We make beautiful, sweet, sticky orange cinnamon rolls. Their thick, sticky orange cream cheese icing makes a delightful breakfast treat that will perfume your house.

Dough: – ¾ cup warm whole milk (110 degrees F (43 degrees C)) – 1 (.25 ounce) package active dry yeast – 1 large egg, at room temperature – 1 large egg yolk, at room temperature – ½ cup unsalted butter, softened – 2 tablespoons honey – 1 ½ teaspoons freshly grated orange zest – ¼ cup freshly squeezed orange juice – 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour, divided, or more as needed – 1 ½ teaspoons kosher salt – cooking spray Filling: – ½ cup unsalted butter, softened – ½ cup light brown sugar – 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon – 1 ½ teaspoons freshly grated orange zest Frosting: – 4 ounces cream cheese, softened – 1 cup powdered sugar – 1 tablespoon freshly grated orange zest – 1 tablespoon freshly squeezed orange juice – ¼ teaspoon kosher salt

Put hot milk in a stand mixer with a paddle attachment for dough. Sprinkle yeast over milk evenly. Wait 5–10 minutes for foam.

Combine egg, egg yolk, butter, honey, orange zest, and juice with yeast. 45-second low-beat blend. A moist dough needs 2 cups flour and 1 minute low.

 Mixer off, dough hook on. To soften and stretch, mix 1 1/2 cups flour and salt on medium for 7–10 minutes. Flouring 1/2 cup teaspoon by spoonful makes soft dough. Wet dough.

Form dough into a ball and place in an oiled bowl. Cover with plastic wrap and let rise at room temperature for 1 hour to double.

Bowl together butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, and orange zest for the filling. Stir with a spatula until creamy, about 1 minute. Set aside.

The dough should be punched and floured. Make a 10-by-18-inch dough rectangle. Spread filling on dough, leaving 1/2-inch border on top long edge.

Dough seams. 12 1/2-inch dough log rolls. Oil 13 x 9-inch baking tray. Let rise 30–45 minutes at room temperature until puffy and almost doubled, covered with plastic wrap.

Pre-heat the oven to 375°F. Bake rolls for 22–25 minutes in preheated oven until golden brown.

Bake rolls, make frosting. Whisk powdered sugar, orange zest, salt, and cream cheese in a paddle-attached stand mixer. Beat medium-high for 2–3 minutes until creamy.

Remove rolls from oven and place on wire rack. Spread frosting evenly on rolls after 2 minutes of cooling. Warm serve.
