Waffle House-Style Waffles Recipe

Try this easy copycat recipe for Waffle House waffles—you won't notice. Serve with maple syrup, butter, and chocolate chips.

– 1 ½ cups flour – 2 tablespoons cornstarch – 1 teaspoon salt – ½ teaspoon baking powder – ½ teaspoon baking soda – 1 large egg – ¼ cup sugar – ¼ cup salted butter, softened, plus more for serving – 1 teaspoon vanilla extract – 1 cup half-and-half – ½ cup buttermilk – cooking spray – pure maple syrup, and/or chocolate chips, for serving

In a bowl, whisk together flour, cornstarch, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.

Cream egg, sugar, butter, and vanilla in another large dish. Combine buttermilk and half-and-half. Mix flour until barely mixed and lumpy. Do not overmix. Refrigerate 1h or overnight.

Spray waffle iron lightly before heating to medium-high. Put 2/3 cup batter on waffle iron. Cook 4–6 minutes until golden and crisp. Keep heated on a platter. Use leftover batter.
