Snowman Cookies Recipe

Beautiful snowman cookies for cookie trays! Black and orange candy melts can replace dark and white chocolate for these sugar cookie snowmen.

– 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened – 4 ounces full fat cream cheese, softened – 3/4 cup white sugar – 1/4 cup loosely packed light brown sugar – 1 large egg yolk, at room temperature – 2 teaspoons vanilla extract – 1/4 teaspoon almond extract – 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour – 3/4 teaspoon salt – 1/2 teaspoon baking powder – 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg – 1/3 cup granulated or sanding sugar, for rolling – 3 tablespoons dark chocolate chip – 2 tablespoons white chocolate chip – 1/8 teaspoon orange gel food coloring, or as needed – 1 teaspoon assorted holiday sprinkles, or as needed – 1 pull-apart licorice stick, such as Twizzler

In a large bowl, combine butter, cream cheese, white sugar, and brown sugar for 3–4 minutes. Whisk yolk, vanilla, and almond extract 3 minutes. Lightly mix flour, salt, baking powder, and nutmeg.

Cover and refrigerate dough for 1 hour. Parchment a baking sheet. Pour 1/3 cup sugar into a bowl.

Grab refrigerated dough. Take 2 tablespoons of dough and make balls. Making a dough ball with 1 tablespoon. Avoid flattening the larger and smaller balls as you press them together until they stick.

Roll the snowman slowly in sugar. Place snowmen 2 inches apart on the baking sheet. Make all snowmen using remaining dough. Frost snowmen for 30 minutes.

Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake snowmen 17–20 minutes in preheated oven until firm and slightly cracked. Allow cookies to cool on the pan before removing.

Dark chocolate chips melt in 30-second increments at 50% power in a microwave-safe bowl. Adding melted chocolate to a small piping bag hole.

Pipe chocolate eyes and mouths for snowmen. Sprinkle Christmas sprinkles over the snowmen's abdomen after piping three dots.

Melt white chocolate at 50% for 30 seconds in a microwave-safe bowl. Put orange gel coloring. Pipe mixture into small-holed piping bag. Pipe noses on all snowmen.

Licorice sticks can be split into strands. Make a scarf for each snowman by wrapping a licorice strand over their neck.

Twist the strand once, then press it tightly to slightly adhere (it may not stay adhered, but you can keep pressing it together). Keep snowmen airtight.
