Revisiting the 1991 and 1992 Royal Rumbles' Comic Book Posters

WWE hired comic book and fantasy artist Joe Jusko to design two of its most famous Royal Rumble posters in the early 1990s. Rumble season leads to Wrestlemania. Note Jusko's 1991 and 1992 comic book posters.

Joe Jusko drew comics for decades. His creative ads include Marvel, DC, WWE, and others. Jusko thrived 1991-92.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━

After his second Royal Rumble poster for January '92's PPV, he designed Wrestlemania VII months later. He created Marvel Masterpieces trading cards that year.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━

On the 1991 Royal Rumble poster, Ultimate Warrior, Hulk Hogan, Randy Savage, and Big Boss Man lead the stampede to the ring. Not the "Road to Wrestlemania," the Rumble winner wasn't guaranteed a title shot until '93.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Comic books' endless heroes, villains, and allegiances inspire pro wrestlers. The 1991 Rumble art by Jusko captures wrestling's energy.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━

WWE wrestlers of this era were intentionally reminiscent of superheroes with their gaudy outfits and penchant for fighting, which Jusko intuitively recognizes and emphasizes in his iconic poster using his fantasy and comic book background.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━

He returned to WWE for 1992 Royal Rumble and Wrestlemania VII, proving his talent. Rumble 1992 poster beats 1991. Ric Flair, Hulk, Macho Man, and Jake "the Snake" Roberts arrive.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━

The 1992 poster emphasizes the stars' fantastic and eccentric traits more than the first. Hogan-sized snake wraps Jake. Perfectly captured Flair's ring strut.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━

The Teen Undertaker is terrifying. 1992 Royal Rumble poster superstars could fight Avengers or Justice League. Joe Jusko's early 1990s WWE posters can help you prepare for the latest Royal Rumble.
