10 Oscars Records Broken By The 2024 Nominations

Singer-songwriter Diane Warren has 15 Oscar nominations for Best Original Song. "The Fire Inside" by Becky G for Flamin' Hot, a biopic comedy, was nominated. 


1. Diane Warren Repeats Best Original Song Nomination

Hayao Miyazaki, 83, was the oldest Best Animated Feature nominee. Before The Boy and the Heron, Miyazaki was nominated for Best Animated Feature at the Academy Awards for Spirited Away (2003), Howl's Moving Castle (2006), and The Wind Rises (2014).

Her excellent film Anatomy of a Fall earned Justine Triet the first French female director nomination for Best Director at the 2024 Oscars. Triet is the eighth woman to receive an Oscar nomination for Best Director in 96 years.

First-ever Academy Awards Best Picture nominations go to three female-directed films. Barbie, directed by Greta Gerwig, topped 2023's box office. Both Justine Triet and Celine Song directed Anatomy of a Fall and Past Lives.

Famous actor Robert De Niro now has the widest gap between his first and most recent acting nominations with his Killers of the Flower Moon Supporting Actor nomination.

Martin Scorsese now has more Best Director Oscar nominations than Steven Spielberg. Spielberg and Scorsese tied at nine nominations before Killers of the Flower Moon gave Scorsese 10 Directing nominations.

The oldest Oscar nominee for Best Director is Martin Scorsese with Killers of the Flower Moon. The Maestro producer and director defeated Prizzi's Honor's 1986 nominee, 79-year-old John Huston.
